The Mac OS X Lion software borrowed parts of the lightweight iPhone’s iOS software. This allowed the laptop to act more like Apple’s mobile gadgets. Apple uses names of big cats to distinguish between versions of their software. Lion will include a built-in store that sells various types of Mac software. It will be very similar to the iTunes store that sells apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. These devices have had more success than the Macbooks, because of the fact that they have various free apps that are linked to them. Macs only accounted for a jaw-dropping 4% of the world’s PC shipments. There are many more similar features that the PC carries. The software will also allow users to swipe to a dashboard. It will be possible to create folders by dragging an icon over another, which names itself based on the apps.
The two new Macs are sleek and sick! The laptops are 0.68 inches thick at the back edge and decrease down to 0.11 inches thick at the front edge. They come in two different sizes. One with a screen that's 13.3 inches diagonally and another that contains a screen with an 11.6-inch screen. The larger one scales in at 2.9 pounds and can be used for seven hours. Thanks in part to a low-voltage processor from Intel Corp. that consumes less power than ones running in standard laptops. The smaller one weighs 2.3 pounds and is rated to last five hours. Both can sit on standby for 30 days.
Prices range from $999 for a smaller one with 64 gigabytes of flash memory storage to $1,599 for the larger model with 256 gigabytes of flash.
Before the release, there was a rumor that Apple could include a touch screen on their Macs. Apple did not do so, because they believe it doesn’t make sense to make customers touch a vertical surface. A con is they still do not have a CD drive or DVD drive. Although, this is disappointing, it should be known that computers process faster and wake up from their “sleep” state quicker.
Apple is also bringing the famous FaceTime to its Macbooks. The feature was introduced in the iPhone 4 and has been introduced recently to the iPad.
Apple is also releasing a new version of iLife, its set of programs for managing photos, editing videos and music and doing other tasks. This will just add to the brilliance of the Macs.
The company added more ties between its iPhoto program and the popular social networking site Facebook. When people glance at pictures they've published on Facebook, iPhoto displays comments friends made on that site.
Other new features include a full-screen view for managing photos, new slideshow templates with great designs, and the ability to e-mail customized photo-postcards straight from iPhoto.
In iMovie, Apple improved audio editing and the ability to easily piece together movie trailers. The audio was originally known to be horrible and hard to hear. This was greatly improved.
ILife '11 will come installed on new Macs and can be purchased as an upgrade for $49 starting immediately. The previous 2009 version will cost $30 more.
Overall, the two Macbooks and the new software for the Macs are expected to get brilliant reviews and have so far. The company of Apple is expected to get a 5% rise in earnings for their 4th quarter due to this release only.
